Review: Oye Lucky!! Lucky Oye!!

Dibankar Banerjee… Does the name ring a bell… Most probably not… Well to remind you, he’s the director of one of the best made film of our times "Khosla ka Ghonsla". This man knows what he makes. While I wont rate this movie along with KKG but its nevertheless a very well made movie in itself. In khosla ka ghosla the director had the services of splendid actors like Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Ranveer Shorey, Vinay Pathak and Naveen Nischol, but in OLLO it’s the small parts which steal the show, along with Abhay Deol, showing his now usual knack for off-beat movies.

So whether its Lucky’s friend , the policemen chatting with the star conman, Haryanvi cop from special branch or people scouting for their belongings in the recovered goods, everybody is as natural as anybody can be.

The movie is about an impulsive thief (much like Bunty Bubly), who starts stealing to impress a girl but gradually makes it a livelihood. The difference from Bunty Bubly is, that in Bunty Bubly the lead pair used to fool others to loot them, while our Lucky has a more in the face style. He steals with confidence and is always ready with some cheeky line to save him from getting caught.

He gets into houses, picks-up things and walks out like he owns them. His confidence enables him to make potential witnesses into accomplices. Some of the burglaries are really imaginative, like one when he steals the music system from a teenager’s room.
The end does disappoint me a bit, as being Indian, we like to have definite endings. But the movie will certainly leave you wanting for more.

I wonder why directors like Subhash Ghai get more media coverage for making crap such as Yaadein and Yuvraj, while artistes like Dibankar go unnoticed. Anyways, kudos to Mr. Banerjee for making the kind of films he makes. And will surely watch out for more from him.

I won’t give star ratings or say with finality whether you should watch it or not, I’l just say, if you do watch it… u won’t regret :)
